The Golden Chain of the Naqshbandi Haqqani Order

Golden Chain

The designation of the Naqshbandi Golden Chain has changed from century to century.
From the time of Abu Bakr as-Siddiq to the time of Bayazid al-Bistami it was called as-Siddiqiyya. From the time of Bayazid to the time of Abd al-Khaliq al-Ghujdawani it was called at-Tayfuriyya. From the time of Abdul-Khaliq al-Ghujdawani to the time of Shah Naqshband it was called the Khwajaganiyya. From the time of Ubayd Allah al-Ahrar and Ahmad Faruqi, it was called the Naqshbandiyya.

Naqshbandiyya means to 'tie the naqsh very well.' The naqsh is the perfect engraving of God's Name in the Heart of the seeker, follower, student or disciple.

From the time of Ahmad al-Faruqi to the time of Khalid al-Baghdadi it was called the Naqshbandiyya-Mujaddidiyya. From the time of Khalid al-Baghdadi until the time of Sheikh Ismail ash-Shirwani it was called the Naqshbandiyya-Khalidiyya. From the time of Ismail ash-Shirwani until the time of Shaykh Abd Allah ad-Daghestani, it was called the Naqshbandiyya-Daghestaniyya. And today it is known by the name Naqshbandiyya-Haqqaniyya.

The chain of transmission of the Naqshbandi-Haqqani Golden Chain is as follows:
